Maryport Harbour is a picturesque working harbour with fishing boats moored along the historic Elizabeth Dock walls. The area is noted for its maritime history, which can be viewed at the Maritime Museum and the Wave Centre (www.thewavemaryport.co.uk), which also includes tourist information and cafe. To go even further into Maryport's past visit the Senhouse Roman Museum. as the Romans were known to be the first seafarers to settle in the area and have left some impressive remains.

On the harbour side the fishing fleet land their catch, which is processed and sold in the shop known as 'The Catch'. They not only sell the locally caught fish but also have many other types of fish on sale.

Opening hours are generally 10.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. in the winter and 9.00 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. in the summer, six days a week.

Many of the fish and sea life from the local waters can be seen at the Lake District Coast Aquarium, or visit the Aquarium café that overlooks the harbour.
